The Apex Historic District was established in 1994, and features many buildings that were built in the late 1800's. The downtown buildings of Apex are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .
Since the 1990's, Apex's population has quadrupled to its present population of over 37,000 people. The town remains true to its motto stating it is "The Peak of Good Living", as that it was #44 on CNN/Money magazines "Top Places to Live" list.
