Originally called Sippihaw, Fuquay-Varina was established in the mid 19th century as a tobacco town. Mineral springs were soon discovered and rumored to have healing powers, drawing many people to this small, southern town. The town, renamed Fuquay Springs, and it's neighboring town, Varina, were merged in 1963, hence Fuquay-Varina was born.
Now the 26th fastest growing city in North Carolina, Fuquay-Varina has experienced tremendous growth due to its well-planned residential communities, shopping areas, and proximity to the Research Triangle Park. There are currently over 17,000 people who call Fuquay-Varina home, and the town now has 6 public schools, many parks, athletic fields, a soccer complex, and several other recreational areas.
